This week we will dip below 12 1/2 hours of daylight, and gain momentum towards November 10, when we go below 10 hours and just about everything stops growing until mid February. We are fortunate to have a nursery and some very talented student employees that facilitate our Winter production. The goal is to have everything transplanted in the hoops 80% mature by November 10, although we seldom make it completely!
The nursery allows us to start our Winter Produce late July and mid- August. After the hoops are winterized, the only thing left before cold weather harvest is planting next Summer's Garlic!
Our menu is getting pretty full this week, and we will gradually reduce the number of items as we approach the cool weather crops like Cabbage, Brussels Spouts, and Spinach. I would also include Broccoli, but one never knows how it's going to turn out! We also have a lot of Baby Lettuce and Romaine ready for transplant.
Please review that menu and let me know if I can help. I hope to see you soon!
